Star Books

Really interesting dimension and patterns in this star book and a cool way of binding the string in the top photo, both found on pinterest.

Japanese Stab Binding

After testing out a few of the tutorials Ms Abens gave us to try out for japanese stab binding I decided to try out a more complicated binding for my book.
I chose this Tiara tutorial from beccamakingfaces. It was pretty easy to complete aside from the confusion here and there due to there being so many holes. When i completed it it looked pretty good aside from the holes being placed slightly mixed and not 100% organized, but I am happy with how it turned out.

Visual Metaphor

I am the woman on the rock. I feel the fresh rich air of the sea blowing towards me in a delicate yet unmeasurably powerful breeze. I feel the contrastingly dry rock beneath me, dry land behind me, dry sky looking down from above me. I reflect upon myself in how I also feel these contrasting powers within myself. I feel both connected with the massive churning sea, and also the ancient wise desert rock. I am feeling peace and power, feeling minuscule and vast, I feel ethereal.

I am the air, I am eternally ancient, but also so very young. Constantly moving against the will of my own and everyone around me, eroding rocks and building waves and creating or breaking up peace. I am free in open space, not confined to any room or location, in this photo I am unrestricted.

I am myself, I feel at times one with nature in such a powerful and peaceful dynamic similar to the subject in the photo. I resemble her in my appreciation of the mass of the world around me, and relate to the framing of the photo causing such a scale divide of small humans to large and unyielding natural forces.

Pre Portraits

I took some photos of my friend & scanned the negatives to see them more clearly. I really like the more candid windblown photos and want to capture a more natural look in my photos.

These are some color film pictures I took in January that I recently got developed and show a much different but still interesting type of portrait. They are both very organized in the style, location, and whole set up of the photo but the model/models are still candid. I really like these two.

Light Shadow Reflection: Prework Part II

Arunan M
This photo is a silhouette with some very dark details able to be seen in the silhouette of it. I personally like the light positioning and the layers of mountains that are reminiscent of layered watercolors. As the subjects clearly are very dark the photo had to be metered on likely the lighter toned mountain range in the back or the clouds in the upper right of the photo as they are well exposed and in detail.

Henri Cartier-Bresson

FRANCE. Paris. 1952-1953. Schoolchildren looking from the top of Notre-Dame cathedral at the Seine River.

This is a photo from his photo essay on The Seine. I found this image to be extremely interesting. I love the composition, everything that fits in the photo and I just thought it was very captivating.
